The Specialist Day – New Ways for Basketry! We invite you to explore the future of our craft – across borders, experiences and perspectives. The event is organised by the international team of the Erasmus+ project „GPS – new ways to basketry craft in Germany, Poland and Slovakia“. We are going to work together for the common ideas and a future of our craft, we want to make it together with you!

The event is an additional part of Korbmarkt in Lichtenfels, Germany.

We founded the international network of basket weaving organisations in Lichtenfels in 2019 – on the Monday following the basketry fair. At the time, Hansgert Butterweck and I took the initiative. Back then, international cooperation was seen as a key approach to giving the weaving craft a certain ‘weight’ in society and politics. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic got in the way.

But a network like this is more important than ever! A year ago, together with our friends from Serfenta in Poland and the friends of the Slovak Basket Makers’ Association, we carried out a joint international project (co-funded by Erasmus+) entitled ‘GPS – New Ways to Basketry in Germany, Poland and Slovakia’. We find the results and insights so important, and the collaboration so encouraging, that we not only want to share all this with you but also take it a step further with an overall larger project to bring together the full diversity of ‘Ways to Basketry’ across Europe’s various weaving cultures and to learn from one another.

We intend to take the first step towards this – once again – on the Monday following the Lichtenfels basketry fair in 2026. We at TEAM GPS therefore warmly invite you to a specialist day in Lichtenfels on

Monday, 21 September 2026 at 10.00 am at the Stadtschloss in Lichtenfels, Stadknechtsgasse 5.

The key topic will be future international cooperation in the field of weaving cultures. To this end, a professional exchange at an international level is a crucial step. You can find the program and schedule on our website.
